Summary
The Government of Rodriguez Zapatero has given us a new lesson in what not to do in foreign policy. Through his unilateral concessions, he has abandoned Spain’s position regarding its claims on Gibraltar, humiliating the Spanish nation as a whole. A thread in Spain’s international policy that has been pursued over the last three centuries has thus been compromised and our nation has diminished a little further. This is another example of a governmental strategy that has now become a habit: preventive surrender.
